Tutorial: Password-protect Search Results

There may be times when you wish to protect the titles of your files from prying eyes. This tutorial steps you through protecting search results... by requiring that users logon to BadBlue before viewing the results of a search. This tutorial assumes that you are already familiar with the basic Password-Protection Tutorial.
Step 1

The Manage tab (highlighted in yellow at right) is used to manage your BadBlue server. Click the Manage tab.

Step 2

Click the Setup Search link (highlighted).

Step 3

On the Setup Search page, enter the BadBlue installation path followed by the name search.htx, then press the Share button. For example, enter:
c:\program files\badblue\pe\search.htx

Then press the Share button.

Note that if you did not install to the default installation folder (or use BadBlue Enterprise Edition) you may need to specify a different folder in front of search.htx.

Step 4

Click on the Manage tab again (highlighted).

Step 5

Click the 'Password-protect files' link (highlighted). This will let you choose folders or files to be password-protected.

Step 6

Select the shared area that was created in step 3 (search.htx - highlighted), then press the 'Require user authentication' button.

Step 7

To test the search, click the 'Search tab', then enter a phrase that matches one or more files that you shared using the Search Tutorial. Press the Go! button. Before viewing any search results, a 'Enter Password' box will appear. Now users visiting your PC will only see search results if they have a valid user account.
