Tutorial: Password-protect OfficeSurfer

OfficeSurfer is a private surfing capability built-in to BadBlue. There may be times when you wish to password-protect OfficeSurfer. This tutorial steps you through protecting OfficeSurfer... by requiring that visitors logon to BadBlue before using it. This tutorial assumes that you are already familiar with the basic Password-Protection Tutorial.
Step 1

The Manage tab (highlighted in yellow at right) is used to manage your BadBlue server. Click the Manage tab.

Step 2

Click the Setup Search link (highlighted).

Step 3

On the Setup Search page, enter the BadBlue installation path followed by the name http:\\, then press the Share button. Repeat the process and use https:\\. For example, enter:
c:\program files\badblue\pe\http:\\

Then press the Share button. The enter:

c:\program files\badblue\pe\https:\\

And press the Share button again.

Note that if you did not install to the default installation folder (or use BadBlue Enterprise Edition) you may need to specify a different folder in front of http:\\ and https:\\.

Step 4

Click on the Manage tab again (highlighted).

Step 5

Click the 'Password-protect files' link (highlighted). This will let you choose folders or files to be password-protected.

Step 6

Select the shared area that was created in step 3 (http:\\ - highlighted), then press the 'Require user authentication' button. Repeat for https:\\.



Step 7

To test, click the 'Search tab', then click on the OfficeSurfer icon (highlighted). If you haven't logged-on before, an 'Enter Password' box will appear. Now users visiting your PC will only be able to use OfficeSurfer if they have a valid user account.
