How can I control the speed of downloads?
'Bandwidth throttling' forces each
user to share bandwidth. Throttling allows you to specify
delays during the download of large files from your site.
You control the delay between the transmission of each large
'bucket' of data that is sent to the user (each 'bucket' of data
is 32K or approximately 32,000 characters or bytes).
| Throttle delay and download speed |
| No delay | ;;;;;; | 10 seconds |
| Fastest | ;;;;;; | Slowest |
|
To control throttling, click the
Manage tab and select Set download limits and bandwidth throttling.
Choose a throttle delay that ranges from "no delay" (allow
transfers to occur as fast as possible) to up to 10 seconds
between each 32K bucket of data. Then click the 'Save changes'
button.
How do I control downloads for individual users?
If your files are password-protected, BadBlue can identify
which user(s) are in the process of downloading files. BadBlue's connection settings
allow you to control how many concurrent (simultaneous) files each identified user may
download.
To configure the setting, use the
Manage tab, then click Set download limits and bandwidth throttling.
Choose the 'Max downloads per user' setting that you would like to enforce. Note that
the total number of simultaneous downloads (the 'Max downloads' setting) still applies and overrides
the per-user setting if necessary.
Click the 'Save changes'
button to finish.

How do I control the maximum number of concurrent downloads?
The maximum number of concurrent (simultaneous) downloads applies
to all users who are in the process of downloading large files
from your site.
To configure the setting, use the
Manage tab, then click Set download limits and bandwidth throttling.
Choose the 'Max downloads' setting appropriate for your connection
speed. Some suggested settings are:
| Connection speed | Max connections |
| Dialup | 2-3 |
| DSL | 3-6 |
| Cable | 4-8 |
| T1+ | 6-24 |
|
Click the 'Save changes'
button to finish.
